This 11-inch vase is made from speckled clay and finished in a green shino glaze—a traditional, unpredictable glaze known for its depth, warmth, and variation. In the kiln, shino comes to life, breaking into soft orange and earthy brown tones where the glaze thins, creating subtle shifts in color that can be hard to predict.
These natural variations are what make shino so special—each firing leaves behind its own unique record of heat, atmosphere, and movement.
The form is simple and grounded, allowing the glaze to take center stage. Speckles from the clay body gently show through, adding texture and depth beneath the surface.
Thrown and finished entirely by hand, this piece is truly one of a kind—no molds, no duplicates, and no way to recreate the exact way the glaze settled and transformed.
